เมื่อมาเที่ยวมัณฑะเลย์แล้ว หากจะไม่มีอะไร<br />
ติดไม้ติดมือกลับบ้านเลยก็คงจะดูแปลก คนที่ได้<br />
ท่องเที่ยวทั่วมัณฑะเลย์แล้วคงคุ้นเคยกับภาพของ<br />
หุ่นกระบอกที่แขวนขายเป็นของที่ระลึกอยู่ตาม<br />
สถานที่ท่องเที่ยวต่างๆ ศิลปะหุ่นเชิดแบบพม่านี้<br />
เดิมทีเป็นที่นิยมในหมู่ชาววังในยุคราชวงศ์คองบอง<br />
ก่อนที่จะแพร่หลายกลายเป็นการแสดงท้องถิ่น<br />
รวมถึงเป็นเหมือนสื่อในการเผยแพร่ข่าวสารจาก<br />
เมืองหลวงสู่เมืองอื่นๆ ในพม่า แต่เมื่อยุคสมัย<br />
เปลี่ยนไป ความนิยมของละครหุ่นเชิดก็ลดน้อยลง<br />
จนปัจจุบันนี้เหลือคณะละครหุ่นอยู่เพียงไม่กี่คณะ<br />
และหนึ่งในนั้นก็คือคณะ Myanmar Marionnettes<br />
ที่มัณฑะเลย์ที่ยังคงจัดแสดงอยู่ทุกวัน โดยย่นระยะ<br />
เวลาการแสดงจากทั้งคืนมาเป็น 1 ชั่วโมงเพื่อให้<br />
เหมาะกับยุคสมัย ปกติแล้วชาวต่างชาติต้อง<br />
เสียค่าเข้าชมประมาณ 10 ดอลลาร์ แต่คณะนี้เปิด<br />
ให้คนท้องถิ่นเข้ามาชมได้ฟรี เพื่อให้ชาวพม่ารุ่น<br />
ใหม่ได้มีโอกาสสัมผัสกับศิลปะดั้งเดิมของชาติ<br />
ซึ่งดูเผินๆแล้วการแสดงของที่นี่อาจเป็นการแสดง<br />
หุ่นเชิดธรรมดา แต่พอได้เห็นคณะนักเชิดหุ่นที่มา<br />
จากหลากหลายช่วงอายุ ตั้งแต่สิบกว่าๆ ไปจนถึง<br />
แปดสิบกว่าปีแล้วก็ตระหนักได้ว่าคณะละครหุ่น<br />
แห่งนี้กำาลังทำาในสิ่งที่พระเจ้ามินดงทรงปรารถนา<br />
ที่จะทำามาโดยตลอด นั่นคือการส่งผ่านจิตวิญญาณ<br />
ของคนรุ่นก่อนสู่รุ่นต่อไป<br />
Once in Mandalay, one cannot go home<br />
empty handed. Travellers who explored<br />
the city will be familiar with the endless<br />
displays of carved wooden puppets hung<br />
up in stalls as souvenirs.<br />
The Burmese puppets were a popular<br />
kind of performance among the<br />
Konbaung Royals, before being adapted<br />
into a folk performance. Puppet shows<br />
were also a way to pass on current<br />
news from the city to remote regions.<br />
At present, there are several puppet<br />
companies that still do these traditional<br />
performances, and one of which is<br />
Myanmar Marionettes based in Mandalay.<br />
Shows are performed daily, and the<br />
length is shortened from all night long to<br />
one hour. Foreigners have to pay around<br />
10 dollars for a ticket, but locals watch<br />
free of charge. The company aims to let<br />
the new generation of Burmese learn<br />
about their traditional art. And while<br />
the show might look ordinary, if you<br />
see the puppeteers with different ages,<br />
from teenagers to elders on stage, you<br />
will realize that this puppet troupe has<br />
succeeded in fulfilling what King Mindon<br />
wished Mandalay would be: a bridge that<br />
passes on the spirit of a bygone era to<br />
the modern world.<br />
