Celebrate Loy Krathong in 5 earth-friendly ways<br />

ครั้นวันเพ็ญเดือน 12 เวียนมาบรรจบ คนไทยก็ได้ฤกษ์ชวนกัน<br />
มาลอยกระทงอีกครั้ง แม้ประเพณีนี้จะเกิดจากความตั้งใจใน<br />
การขอขมาต่อพระแม่คงคา แต่หลายๆครั้งที่การลอยกระทง<br />
ได้กลายเป็นการทำาร้ายธรรมชาติ และนี่คือวิธีง่ายๆ ที่จะช่วยให้คุณ<br />
ลอยกระทงได้อย่างสบายใจ โดยไม่ทำาร้ายธรรมชาติหรือสัตว์น้ำา<br />
1. หากลอยกระทงที่แหล่งน้ำาแบบปิดอย่างบึงหรือบ่อน้ำา<br />
ควรเลือกใช้วัสดุจากธรรมชาติหรือวัสดุที่เก็บได้ง่าย<br />
2. กระทงขนมปังเหมาะกับแหล่งน้ำาที่มีปลาอยู่อาศัยเป็นจำานวนมาก<br />
ควรเลือกแบบที่แต่งสีและของตกแต่งอื่นๆ น้อยที่สุด<br />
เนื่องจากสิ่งเจือปนเหล่านี้อาจเป็นอันตรายต่อสัตว์น้ำา<br />
3. หากวัสดุเอื้ออำานวย ลองประดิษฐ์วัสดุจากธรรมชาติที่อยู่ในน้ำาได้<br />
นานและจัดเก็บง่าย อย่างกาบกล้วยหรือกาบมะพร้าว<br />
4. ลดการใช้ทรัพยากรด้วยการลดทอนดีไซน์ให้ไม่ซับซ้อน<br />
เพื่อประหยัดทรัพยากร<br />
5. ใช้กระทงร่วมกัน อาจจะคู่รัก 1 กระทง หรือครอบครัวละ 1 กระทง<br />
นอกจากจะลดการใช้ทรัพยากรแล้วยังเป็นสิริมงคลร่วมกันด้วย<br />
On the evening of the full moon of the 12th month in the traditional Thai<br />
lunar calendar, Thai people celebrate Loy Krathong. Although the festival<br />
originated from good intentions to pay respect to the Goddess of Water, many<br />
times this festival ends up harming the environment. These are five easy<br />
ways to let you ‘loy’ (float) your krathong (offerings) in an eco-friendly way.<br />
1. If you plan to float your krathong in closed water parks like lakes or<br />
other reservoirs, try choosing krathongs made from natural materials.<br />
2. Bread krathongs are suitable for water systems that have plenty of fish.<br />
Choose minimalist krathongs with no colours or other decorations that<br />
could harm aquatic animals.<br />
3. If possible, try making krathongs with natural materials that can stay in<br />
the water for long periods of time, and that are easy to pull out of the<br />
water like banana leaf sheafs or coconut fiber.<br />
4. Use as few materials as possible by making simple krathongs.<br />
5. Share krathongs with other loved ones so that you can save the<br />
environment and enjoy making merit together.
