คนรู้จักจังหวัดเชียงรายในฐานะจังหวัดที่อยู่เหนือ<br />
ที่สุดของประเทศไทย นอกจากสนามบินขนาด<br />
เล็กและตัวเมืองอันแสนสงบแล้ว พื้นที่อืื่นๆของ<br />
จังหวัดนี้ดูจะไม่ค่อยได้รับความสนใจจากนักท่องเที่ยว<br />
ทั้งที่จริงๆแล้ว จังหวัดเล็กๆแห่งนี้เต็มไปด้วยป่าเขตร้อน<br />
อันเขียวชอุ่ม แม่น้ำาสีโคลนและยอดเนินแสนงามที่<br />
ชวนให้นึกถึงการผจญภัยของนักท่องเที่ยวสมัยศตวรรษ<br />
ที่ 19 และ 20 ได้เป็นอย่างดี<br />
นักเขียน พอล เธอรูซ์ (Paul Theroux) เคยกล่าว<br />
ไว้ว่า “ทัวริสต์ไม่รู้ว่าตัวเองไปไหนมาบ้าง ในขณะที่<br />
นักท่องเที่ยว (traveller) ไม่รู้ว่าพวกเขากำาลังมุ่งหน้า<br />
ไปที่ไหน” แต่ที่แน่ๆ ผู้มาเยือนเชียงรายส่วนใหญ่ล้วน<br />

การค้นหาและค้นพบ ไม่ว่าคุณจะมาเยือนเชียงรายเพื่อ<br />
ชื่นชมความงามธรรมชาติหรือค้นหาความสงบในจิตใจ<br />
ความสงบท่ามกลางธรรมชาติและชาวท้องถิ่นผู้แสน<br />

Chiang Rai is Thailand’s northernmost<br />
province. Aside from the small airport and<br />
quaint capital city, the rest of Chiang Rai<br />
province remains seemingly unexplored.<br />
Lush rainforests, muddy rivers and picturesque<br />
hilltops easily rekindle the romance<br />
of 19th and early 20th century travellers.<br />

Most people who come to Chiang Rai<br />
are travellers. All tourists are welcomed,<br />
but catering to weekenders and the casual<br />
sightseers are key fortes of hub-cities like<br />
Chiang Mai and Bangkok.<br />
Chiang Rai is a true destination and a<br />
place of discovery. Whether one is here to<br />
learn about the land or find inner peace,<br />
a healthy dose of natural solitude and<br />
respectful locals make this northern<br />
province ideal for seasoned travellers.<br />
The area promotes ‘active tourism’—<br />
visitors usually seek out experiences rather<br />
than arrive and wait for things to come to<br />
them. It’s a gentle reminder of how travel<br />
used to be, and generally should be, as<br />
worldwide tourism matures.
