Level 1 Hair & Beauty
A one-year course designed to introduce you to the hair and beauty
industries, allowing you to specialise in one of these subjects at
Level 2. Modules include: shampoo and conditioning, skincare,
styling women’s hair, basic make-up, and basic manicure and
pedicure treatments.
Level 2 Hairdressing
A one-year course introducing you to the hairdressing sector. You
will cover a range of modules such as: shampoo and conditioning,
cutting and styling women’s hair, colouring and lightening hair, the
art of dressing hair and competition work.
Level 3 Hairdressing
A one-year course developing skills and knowledge within cutting
women’s hair: styling and dressing hair, bridal hair, colouring and
lightening hair and marketing within the hair & beauty sector.
Direct entry onto Level 3 Hairdressing requires successful
completion at level 2.

Achieving a qualification in hairdressing is the
gateway to starting an exciting, fast-paced
career. There are many career opportunities
within your reach, whether you wish to go
into teaching, become self-employed or seek
employment in a salon.

increase in the number of hair and beauty
businesses, with growth particularly strong for
beauty salons and barber shops
• 54% of people who work in hairdressing are
self-employed, in beauty 57% are self-employed
VOCATIONAL COURSES - HAIRDRESSING
Progression opportunities
Most students successfully progress through the levels,
building upon their skills and qualifications. Upon
completion of your Level 3 course, you will be fully qualified
to find employment within a salon, or the wider hair and
beauty sector.
Some students are interested in starting their own businesses
and may want to continue their studies with a higher
education course.
