Level 1 Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
A one-year course giving you a broad introduction to the motor
vehicle industry. The course provides a basic knowledge and
understanding of the principles involved in the maintenance and
repair of light vehicles.
Level 2 Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
A one-year course designed to improve students’ skills, both
practical and theoretical. Modules include: engine technology,
electrics, braking systems, vehicle maintenance, MOT
specifications, and basic engineering.
Level 2 Motor Vehicle Fitting
A one-year course designed to help students gain the key skills
and knowledge sought by vehicle fitting employers. Modules
include: removing and refitting tyres, diagnosing faults with
suspension, testing braking systems, and learning how to
remove and refit major braking components.
Level 3 Motor Vehicle Maintenance
& Repair
A one-year course exploring all aspects of the motor vehicle
industry. You will cover how to diagnose and suitably repair
faults, from the initial customer complaint, to confirming
symptoms and using specialist tools, through to repairing the
fault and testing the system performance.
Irrespective of your GCSE results, most students will start
at level 1 and learn basic skills before progressing through
the levels.

The automotive industry is fast-paced and is
ever changing with the introduction of new
technology. The industry is predicted to keep
growing, so there has never been a better time
to begin a career in this field. Students could
move into a variety of roles, from working on
the latest car designs to working in the world of
racing cars.

and maintenance industry is expecting to
continue growing. The increasing number of
cars on the road means the industry is always
in demand
• There are over 45,000 maintenance and repair
workshops in the UK
• Breakdown engineers may work for local garages
or national organisations such as the AA or RAC.
Senior engineers may earn up to £40,000.
VOCATIONAL COURSES - MOTOR VEHICLE
Progression opportunities
After successfully completing your course, you will have
the necessary skills to progress into employment within the
industry. Students also have the opportunity to gain the
FGAS qualification, allowing them to diagnose and repair
air-conditioning.
