<strong>PC3000</strong> - <strong>Installation</strong> Guide<br />
Local Controller Plus Module<br />
Point-to-point communications<br />
RS232 can only be used for point-to-point communications such as the programming<br />
tools communicating with one LCM-Plus. RS485 may also be used for this type of<br />
communication where an increased level of noise immunity and connection distance<br />
is required.<br />

All communication channels have functional insulation (50V) from the system, but<br />
share a common ground - 0V. Care is therefore required when mixing RS232 and<br />
RS485 communications which may well require insulation between them.<br />
Multi-drop communications<br />
In multi-drop communications one master is connected to many slaves. Multi-drop<br />
communications requires the ports to be RS485.<br />
