leading parent discussion seminars.<br />
Topics covered include: leadership<br />
techniques, structuring parent<br />

theoretical perspectives regarding the<br />

This course provides an overview<br />
of human growth from conception<br />
to adolescence. The theories of<br />
development relevant to life through<br />
the teenage years are introduced<br />
and the social, emotional, cognitive<br />
and physical aspects of these early<br />
stages of life are addressed. This<br />
course is appropriate for students<br />
preparing for a profession working<br />
with children and their families or<br />
those interested in furthering their<br />
understanding of child and adolescent<br />
development. This course is also<br />
designed to meet the Department of<br />
Social Service Classification DS1 and<br />
applies toward the State of California<br />
Title V requirement for the Child<br />

This course is a survey of educational<br />
programs for children from birth<br />
to age eight, the implementation<br />
of those programs and their<br />
historical foundations. Emphasis<br />
is placed on facilitating and<br />
supporting child learning utilizing<br />
the essential elements of Early<br />
Childhood Education. Topics<br />
include developmental theories<br />
and characteristics, the importance<br />
of play, promotion of appropriate<br />
social behavior, guidance and<br />
interactions strategies, analyzing the<br />
relationship between observations,<br />
planning, implementation and<br />
assessment in developing effective<br />
teaching strategies and the family and<br />
community contexts of learning and<br />
development. This course is directed<br />
towards prospective administrators,<br />
teachers, aides, and school-age<br />
caregivers planning careers in private<br />
for-profit or funded programs. This<br />

implementation. The student<br />

collaboration with families to support<br />
all children; demonstrate knowledge<br />
of the teachers’ role in evaluating best<br />
practices and apply understanding of<br />
children’s learning and development.<br />
