This course provides an introduction<br />
to concepts and the use of Geographic<br />
Information Systems (GIS), and its<br />
role in analysis and decision making.<br />
Course work is based on the mapping<br />
and spatial analysis capabilities of<br />
GIS technology including importing<br />
data, scanning, and conversion<br />
of other data into GIS such as<br />
CAD (Computer Aided Drafting)<br />
and Global Positioning Systems.<br />
Students will be introduced to basic<br />
cartographic principles, maps, scales<br />
coordinate systems and projections,<br />
GIS terminology, data structures,<br />
verification of data accuracy. Students<br />
will produce map layouts and<br />
make presentations on specific GIS<br />
applications. This course may be taken<br />
once for credit towards the certificate<br />
and repeated two times for credit to<br />
enhance student skills and proficiency<br />
