officers with an understanding and<br />
awareness of the problems inherent<br />
in the skills required for defensively<br />
driving a police vehicle in everyday<br />
use. It is not a red light and siren,<br />
high speed pursuit, emergency vehicle<br />
operation course. Rather, it is a course<br />
with the idea in mind that accidents<br />
can be prevented by giving students<br />
a series of demonstrations, lectures<br />
and practical exercises in basic police<br />
vehicle defensive driving techniques<br />
which also includes the use of the<br />
on-tract skid pan for actual driver<br />
training. The curriculum follows that<br />
recommended as refresher training<br />
