HONDA PROFESSIONAL CAREER<br />
TRAINING PROGRAM SPECIALIZATION<br />
(PACT) PROGRAM OVERVIEW<br />
The Automotive Technology Honda Professional<br />
Career Training Program Specialization Program<br />
(PACT) is a two year program designed to prepare<br />
graduates to work as an Automotive Technician, with<br />
expertise in working with Honda/Acura vehicles. <strong>Rio</strong><br />
<strong>Hondo</strong> <strong>College</strong> starts a new training program at the<br />
start of each Summer semester.<br />
Graduates will be prepared to work as an entry-level<br />
Automotive Technician within a Honda or Acura<br />
dealership. Students will receive an A.S. Degree in<br />
Automotive Technology and are eligible to take the<br />
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification<br />
exams. <strong>Rio</strong> <strong>Hondo</strong> Automotive Training Programs<br />
are approved by the Bureau of Automotive Repair<br />
(BAR) and certified by the National Automobile<br />
Technician Education Foundation (NATEF).<br />
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:<br />
1. Educational and Other Requirements<br />
a. Graduation from an accredited high school<br />
in the United States or equivalent or<br />
presentation of a G.E.D. certificate.<br />
b. Students must meet the admission<br />
requirement for <strong>Rio</strong> <strong>Hondo</strong> <strong>College</strong>. (see<br />
the Applied Technology counselor for<br />
information)<br />
c. Students will participate in the Academic<br />
Assessment process. Each student will have<br />
the opportunity to take assessment tests<br />
in the skill areas of reading, writing and<br />
mathematics. (see the Assessment Office<br />
for times and dates of testing) and must be<br />
eligible to enroll in the following 3 courses:<br />
ENGL 101, MATH 070 and READ 023.<br />
**For employment in Honda dealerships, students must<br />
meet the following additional requirements: Provide<br />
documentation which verifies identity and authorizes his/<br />
her right to work in the U.S., possess a valid CA drivers<br />
license and have a clean driving record with 1 point or less.<br />
2. Admission Procedure<br />
a. Submit application for admission to the<br />
<strong>College</strong> and official copies of all college work<br />
completed to date. Send to the Office of<br />
Admissions and Records by March 15th.<br />
b. Submit application for the Honda PACT<br />
program to the Technology Office by March<br />
15th (deadline subject to change; check with<br />
department for details) with the following<br />
documentation: One official copy of the<br />
high school transcript or G.E.D., copy of all<br />
transcripts and/or verification of coursework<br />
in progress to be considered for admission,<br />
and a copy of your CA driver’s license and<br />
work authorization. See Applied Technology<br />
Counselor for more information.<br />
c. All applicants will be notified in writing<br />
regarding acceptance or non-acceptance into<br />
the program.<br />
3. Priority for Admission<br />
Applicants who have submitted completed<br />
application materials and have met the educational<br />
requirements will be designated as eligible for<br />
admission. Failure to complete all application<br />
materials shall preclude admission to the program. In<br />
the event that the number of applicants designated<br />
as being eligible for admission exceeds the number of<br />
student positions in the program, the determination<br />
of who shall be admitted to the program will be based<br />
on a set of priorities outlined in this section of the<br />
policy.<br />
Applicants who have completed the greatest<br />
number of courses will be given priority:<br />
a. Applicants with the highest G.P.A. in<br />
prerequisite coursework will be admitted<br />
first.<br />
b. The above being equal, priority of admission<br />
will be given to eligible applicants<br />
who have completed courses listed below<br />
with a minimum grade of “C”.<br />
Applicants who have completed the greatest number<br />
of courses will be given priority.<br />
