This course is designed to meet the<br />

needs of Indentured Apprentices<br />

with the State of California who are<br />

interested in the framing field within<br />

the carpentry industry. Modules cover<br />

the following topics: wall framing,<br />

plates, wall layouts, structural<br />

connectors, bracing, aligning, floor<br />

layouts, floor systems, stair building<br />

and layouts, winders, curved stairs,<br />

building exteriors, balconies, bay<br />

windows, columns, pop-outs, trims,<br />

siding, roof systems, hips, gable<br />

roofing, dormers, rafter construction,<br />

metal framing, fasteners, metal trusses,<br />

and panelized roof systems.<br />

Lath/Drywall<br />

This course is designed to teach the<br />

techniques and skills needed for<br />

freeform lathing. Skillls such as proper<br />

welding, cutting, halding and tying of<br />

lath. Hand tools are mandatory.<br />

Tilt-Up<br />

Students will be instructed in layout<br />

techniques for a typical tilt-up panel<br />

and the importance of 3-4-5 methods<br />

of squaring a panel. They also will<br />

and the location of finish floor lines<br />

and roof lines through blueprints.<br />

Scaffolding<br />

This course is designed to meet the<br />

needs of Indentured Apprentices<br />

with the State of California who<br />

are interested in the scaffolding<br />

field within the carpentry industry.<br />

Modules cover the following topics:<br />

safety procedures, regulations,<br />

industry rules, scaffold planning,<br />

worksite applications, welded frame/<br />

mobile tower scaffolds, welded frame/<br />

tower scaffold applications, tube<br />

and clamp assemblies and worksite<br />

applications, scaffolding systems,<br />

shoring, re-shoring, rigging, rigging<br />

safety, and estimating.<br />

Cabinet/Millwork<br />

This course is designed to meet the<br />

needs of Indentured Apprentices<br />

with the State of California who are<br />

interested in the cabinetmaking field<br />

within the carpentry industry. Course<br />

topics include: applications of wood<br />

products, hand and power tool usage,<br />

material usage, layout/millwork, jigs/<br />

fixtures, architectural details, shop<br />

drawings, estimating, CAD/CAM and<br />

construction of a cabinet, along with<br />

current glues and abrasives.<br />

Health & Safety<br />

This course provides basic First Aid/<br />

CPR Training in the performance<br />

of emergencies for conscious and<br />

unconscious victims, recognizing<br />

signs of a heart attack and the proper<br />

techniques for administering CPR.<br />

These skills are presented for use on<br />

adults, children and infants. First<br />

Aid training deals with controlling<br />

bleeding, burns, sprains, strains,<br />

poisoning, broken bones and caring<br />

for victims of sudden illness. These<br />

classes meet or exceed California or<br />

Federal OSHA training requirements.<br />

American Red Cross I.D. cards will be<br />

issued upon successful completion of<br />

the course.<br />

Accoustical<br />

This course is designed to expand<br />

on the usage of acoustical materials<br />

and products used in the accoustical<br />

industry. Upon the completion of this<br />

class the learner will have a working<br />

knowledge of glue up, concealed<br />

ceilings/walls and the usage of<br />

compaso for ceilings and soffits. Hand<br />

tools are necessary.<br />

Blueprints<br />

This course is designed to meet the<br />

needs of Indentured Apprentices<br />

with the State of California who are<br />

interested in the blueprint reading<br />

field within the carpentry industry.<br />

Course topics will include: basics<br />

of reading, understanding and<br />

visualizing the blueprint, terms,<br />

symbols and definitions from several<br />

trades will be incorporated into prints<br />

showing residential/commercial<br />

buildings, slopes, grades, and<br />

computer designs. Layout tools will be<br />

necessary.<br />

Computers<br />

This course is designed to meet the<br />

needs of Indentured Apprentices<br />

with the State of California who are<br />

interested in the computer application<br />

field within the carpentry industry.<br />

principles of computers, general<br />

computer usage, processing,<br />

spreadsheets, databases, and the<br />

world wide web. Lab sessions include<br />

individual computer use.<br />

Welding<br />

This course provides an introduction<br />

to basic welding. Students will<br />

learn about the various welding<br />

machines as well as electrodes and<br />

their specific application. They also<br />

will be instructed in the proper and<br />

safe use of oxygen an acetylene torch.<br />

Demonstration and testing will be<br />

required.<br />

Effective Supervision Certificate<br />

Program<br />

This course is designed for individuals<br />

promoted into supervisory positions.<br />

The class will assist employers who<br />

have promoted line employees with<br />

little or no formal supervision training,<br />

as well as those anticipating a career<br />

that includes supervising other<br />

individuals. Topics will focus on six<br />

areas comprised of basic supervisory<br />

skills and concepts. Students are<br />

provided with an overview of what is<br />

expected of an effective supervisor and<br />

what skills are required to successfully<br />

perform in that capacity. Real-life<br />

business situations are discussed and<br />

evaluated. Students take knowledge<br />

gained back to their respective work<br />

venues and conversely bring examples<br />

to the class for discussion.<br />

Fundamentals of Law Enforcement/<br />

Individual Study<br />

This course is designed to provide<br />

law enforcement students or those<br />

involved in a related public service<br />

development of law enforcement,<br />

ethical and moral standards, California<br />

law, and other related issues. Students<br />

will receive individualized instruction<br />

tailored to their plan of study.<br />
