Figure 11 gives two examples of the exposure metric:<br />

The exposure value calculated is a measure of how close the system<br />

is to capturing an image that maximizes the use of the dynamic<br />

range. Looking at the tail behavior of the pixel distribution makes the<br />

determination.<br />

If the tail does not extend to the saturation point, the image is<br />

underexposed.<br />

If the tail has a peak at the far right side that is a measurement of<br />

the saturation, the image is overexposed.<br />

The exposure population reports the population of panels that have<br />

an exposure quality beyond a given threshold. A large average size<br />

can be caused by a small number of panels with large outlier values<br />

or a large number of panels with a large size. The two values taken<br />
