SUMMARY The laryngeal cancer is a common tumor in men, but still rare among women. Our work is a retrospective study from January 2003 to December 2007, it involves 11 cases of larynx cancer in women followed in our department of ENT at the hospital OMAR DRISSI of Fez. The mean age of our patients was 51 years, review of past medical historypointed out 3cases of important passive smoking with an average of 10 packs-years, no case of active smoking had been noted. The notion of exposure to smoke from burning wood is found in 5 patients, all our patients are of rural origin. The average duration between the onset of clinical signs and consultation was 9 months. Dysphonia was the revealing clinical sign in 9 patients over 11, it’ is often associated with the evolution course of dyspnea. Dysphagia as telling sign is found in only two cases. All patients have benefited from endoscopy with biopsy, which confirmed the diagnosis of epidermoid carcinoma in most cases (10/11). Imagery allowed us to assess the extension, wich pointed out an advanced stages in most cases (Stade4 (a): 6 patients ). The treatment consisted of a radio-surgical combination in 7 cases, surgery alone in one case, an exclusive radiotherapy in two cases, and an association radiochemothérapy in one case. The course was marked by a carcinological loco-regional control in 6 cases, one patient presented a tumor recurrence and two patients were lost of sight. We 134
deplore the death of two patients. Our study has faced the problems common to all work back and the limited number of patients, but it has the advantage of being the starting point for further work on wider series, and having as purpose to bring answer for the most important question wich is “what are the risc factors of laryngeal cancer among the no smokers” . 135
