1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Overview
The Senegal Continuous Service Provision Assessment Survey (SCSPA) 2012–2013
was conducted by the National Agency of Statistics and Demography [Agence Nationale de
la Statistique et de la Démographie (ANSD)] in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and
Social Action [Ministère de la Santé et de l’Action Sociale (MSAS)].
This survey received technical assistance from ICF International Inc. under the
auspices of the MEASURE DHS program.
The survey was funded by the United States Agency for International Development
(USAID).
This is a survey of a national sample of formal health facilities. It is designed to
provide detailed information on the provision of services and operation of various aspects of
the health system that can affect the quality of services. Data collection lasted eight months
and took place from October 15, 2012 to June 15, 2013. Various priority health services
included in the SCSPA are the following:
• child health services, including curative care, immunization, and monitoring of
growth
• maternity services, including antenatal care (ANC), delivery, emergency obstetric
care, postpartum care, and newborn care
• family planning (FP) services
• services for communicable diseases, including sexually transmitted infections
(STI), malaria, tuberculosis (TB), HIV/AIDS, and related services
• services for non-communicable diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular
diseases, and chronic respiratory diseases
Information from the 2012–2013 SCSPA in Senegal will help policy makers and
program managers prioritize interventions.
This report presents the results of the first year of the SCSPA relating to key aspects
of the equipment, infrastructure, and provision of services for which data were collected.
