Medicines and Basic Commodities for Supporting Deliveries and Newborns
Tables 3.18.1 and 3.18.2 show the availability of medicines and commodities for
delivery and newborn care in the health facilities offering delivery services according to the
type of facility and managing authority and region.
Across the country, among the facilities providing normal delivery services, there was
a limited availability of many essential medications including injectable antibiotics
(53percent), magnesium sulfate (28 percent), intravenous fluids with infusion set (54
percent), calcium gluconate (5 percent), misoprostol (1 percent), and dexamethasone (6
percent).
The availability of essential commodities for newborn care is generally low in all
regions. Notably, misoprostol is available at the regional level only in Dakar and Thiès.
Table 3.18.1 Medicines and commodities for delivery and newborn care byfacility type and managing authority
