With regard to routine supplementation of vitamin A, health posts are the facilities
that most frequently offer this service (85 percent), followed by health centers (62 percent)
and hospitals and health huts (52 percent each).
In addition, there is a good distribution of all basic child health services across the
country, from 62 percent in Kolda to 100 percent in the region of Fatick. At the national
level, the availability of the three basic child health services is 80 percent for all facilities.
Table 3.7 presents the frequency of availability of two basic child health services—
curative care for sick children and growth monitoring—according to the type of facility,
managing authority, and region.
Generally, all facilities with curative care for children provide it at a frequency of five
or more days per week (97 percent), especially at the level of health posts and health centers,
and this is the case in all regions. The lowest percentage was noted in Dakar with 93 percent.
On the other hand, among the facilities that offer growth monitoring, only one health
post in two provides growth monitoring at this frequency. This service is regularly available
in very few health huts: 8 percent make it available five or more days per week, while 1
percent offers it one to two times per week.
