Availability of Antenatal Care<br />

Table 3.15 shows the availability of antenatal care as well as the number of days the<br />

services are offered per week according to the type of facility, managing authority, and<br />

region.<br />

Overall, 89 percent of health facilities offer ANC services and among those providing<br />

these services, 93 percent offer them at least five days a week. Among the facilities that<br />

provide ANC services, these services are notably more consistently offered in the public than<br />

in the private sector. Indeed, 9 percent of the public facilities provide ANC services at least<br />

five days a week compared to 63 percent for the private sector.<br />

Availability of Essential Medicines for ANC<br />

Table 3.16 presents the availability of essential medicines and tetanus toxoid vaccine<br />

for ANC in the facilities that offer ANC services.<br />

Iron tablets (85 percent), folic acid (78 percent), and tetanus toxoid vaccine (85<br />

percent) were observed to be available in more than three-quarters of the surveyed facilities<br />

that offer ANC services. However, these medicines and products are far less available in<br />

hospitals and private facilities offering ANC services.<br />
