e. Pencitraan<br />
Dalam puisi, untuk memberikan gambaran yang jelas, menimbulkan<br />
suasana yang khusus, atau membuat lebih hidup gambaran dalam pikiran dan<br />
penginderaan maka penyair menggunakan gambaran-gambaran angan-pikiran.<br />
Gambaran-gambaran angan inilah yang kemudian disebut sebagai citraan<br />
(imagery). Setiap gambar pikiran disebut citra atau imaji.<br />
” Imagery may be defined as the representation through language of<br />
sense experience. Poetry appeals directly to our senses, of course, through<br />
its music and rhythm, which we actually hear when it is read aloud. But<br />
indirectly it appeals to our senses through imagery, the representation to<br />
imagination of sense experience (Perrine, 1969: 54).<br />
Gambaran pikiran adalah sebuah efek dalam pikiran yang sangat<br />
menyerupai gambaran yang dihasilkan oleh penangkapan kita terhadap sebuah<br />
objek yang dapat dilihat oleh mata, saraf pendengar, atau daerah-daerah otak yang<br />
berhubungan. Ini berarti bahwa orang harus mengingat pengalaman inderaan atas<br />
objek-objek yang disebutkan atau diterangkan (Pradopo, 1987: 80)<br />
Holman mendefinisikan citraan sebagai berikut:<br />
Imagery may center itself on the physical world which is represented<br />
through the language of the work; upon the rhetorical patterns and<br />
devices, upon the psychological state which produced the work and gave it<br />
its special reinforces the ostensible meaning of the statement (Holman,<br />
224).<br />
Menurut Perrine (1969: 54), kata image berasosiasi dengan penggambaran<br />
secara non fisik/mental, sesuatu dalam bayangan matam dan visual imagery<br />
adalah yang paling sering muncul dalam puisi. Namun, image juga<br />
