THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ICT IN ENGINEERING PEDAGOGY
SUMMARY
Introduction. The article deals with the implementation of information and communication
technologies (ICT) in Engineering Pedagogy.
The Aim of the Study. To present an online explanatory dictionary of Engineering Pedagogy
which should help students during their study.
Materials and Methods. Approximately 400 students of the Institute of Engineering Pedagogy
and Humanities as well as professionals within Engineering Pedagogy evaluated the
dictionary from the view of its content and from the view of its usability.
Results. During the pre-research with 392 students it was found out that almost 80 % of
students have met with some unknown or confusing words during their study. That supports
the idea to create the dictionary. Almost 98 % of students will use the dictionary if it is
elaborated. Only 2 % do not know if they would use it and there is no student who would not
use that kind of a dictionary.
Conclusions. During the pre-research, the students have confirmed that they really need that
kind of a dictionary and that they would definitely use it when it is created. In the near future,
all the results will be collected and the imperfections will be eliminated. That will help to
create a useful dictionary published in both, online and book versions. This topic has been
solved within KEGA Project 031-035 STU-4/2010: "Models of project-based learning at
secondary vocational schools”.
INTRODUCTION
Information and communication technologies (ICT) are technologies which help to
process, save, verify and select information. Appropriate implementation of ICT into
educational process can make the whole education easier and more effective. The use of the
Internet and computers is the basic requirement for the ICT implementation into schools
(Kadnar, Hrmo, 2009).
Online programmes and computer aided education are new ways of a modern
education. They help to increase teachers’ qualifications and skills as well as the students’
motivation during educational processes (Kadnar, Fedič, Green, 2010).
Engineering pedagogy is a pedagogy which prepares engineers as teachers for their
teacher’s position. The Institute of Engineering Pedagogy and Humanities in Trnava
(Slovakia) is the only institution which provides three study programmes of Engineering
Education. Those are (Kadnar, Hrmo, 2010):
Teaching Practical Subjects within Engineering Majors – bachelor’s degree;
Teaching Specific Engineering Subjects – master’s degree;
Didactics of Engineering Professional Subjects – doctoral degree.
The Department of Engineering Pedagogy and Psychology has decided to elaborate an
online explanatory dictionary of Engineering Pedagogy for the students of the three study
programmes. The main reason is the fact that there is no that kind of a dictionary available
worldwide. The dictionary should help students during their pedagogical preparation.
THE AIM OF THE STUDY
The main aim of the study is to elaborate the dictionary of Engineering Pedagogy and
evaluate it from the view of usability and from the view of its content.
