Almost 80 % of students have met with some unknown or confusing words during
their study. That supports the idea to create the dictionary. First it was assumed that the
students would only want the online version. However, as it can be seen in the figure, the
majority of students wants both, online and book versions. The main reason is the fact that
there are situations where they cannot use the online dictionary (in a class during a lesson,
etc.). Almost 98 % of students will use the dictionary if it is elaborated. Only 2 % do not
know if they would use it and there is no student who would not use that kind of a dictionary.
The beta version of the dictionary is available on web (slovnik.avaling.sk). At the
present time, there is online Slovak version, so the students may use it and the evaluation can
be completed (see Figure 5).
CONCLUSIONS
Up to now the dictionary of Engineering Pedagogy is being elaborated. It includes
approximately 900 words and others are still being added. The online version is created as
well, so the students may use the dictionary at this moment. They just type in a word and then
click on “search” and the definition of the word will be shown. During the pre-research, the
students have confirmed that they really need that kind of a dictionary and that they would
definitely use it when it is created.
In the near future, the dictionary is going to be given to students and professionals
who will evaluate the usability of the system (interface, the operation of the dictionary, the
structure of the dictionary, etc.) and the content of the dictionary (if there are all the words
that students need, if there are any words which are missing, etc.).
After that, all the results will be collected and the imperfections will be eliminated.
That will help to create a useful dictionary published in both, online and book versions.
