DEVELOPMENT OF THE PEDAGOGICAL AID MODEL FOR<br />
PREPARING THE STUDENTS OF A SECONDARY SCHOOL FOR<br />
FUTURE STUDYING<br />
SUMMARY<br />
Introduction. Nowadays one can observe that young people are often not certain into which HEI<br />
should they enroll, do not finish their studies or cannot find job appropriate to their<br />
specialization after graduation. This work has been done with a purpose to improve preparation<br />
process of secondary school students for studies.<br />
The Aim of the Study. Development of the aid model preparing the students of a secondary<br />
school for studying in the HEI, based on HEIs ranking taking into account personal factors.<br />
Materials and Methods. In the article, there are results of applying the most popular worldwide<br />
classifications of HEIs of Latvia introduced and conclusions drawn about necessity to develop a<br />
specific classification which will be able to meet students’ requirements from small countries<br />
such as Latvia. The new classification development stages examined, additional indicators<br />
introduced based on individual needs of students, which will be used in the aid model. There are<br />
aid model blocks described.<br />
Results. Implementation of the aid model into pedagogic process of secondary school is just<br />
started recently, but there already is evidence of positive dynamics: increasing of interest,<br />
focused desire to start preparing for entrance the HEI.<br />
Conclusions. Such improvements of pedagogic process support pupil’s targeted preparation for<br />
studying in the highschool. Pupils showed significant knowledge increase in particular subjects<br />
as well as change and strengthen their attitude, what give an impact on socialization level.<br />

INTRODUCTION<br />
There is constantly increasing competition on perspective studies and jobs. Especially, it<br />
can be observed in the current world economic situation. Young people and their parents should<br />
more seriously consider their choice of higher education because they are interested to be<br />
enrolled into approved school and to receive a competitive diploma/occupation.<br />
As a headmaster of a secondary school in Latvia the author of this article realizes that it<br />
is essential to prepare secondary school graduates for duly targeted studies in higher education<br />
institution (HEI) for the reason of competitiveness during study period and later in labor market.<br />
Young people at the beginning of upper secondary school need guidance to make informed<br />
choice of future occupation taking into account developments in the labor market and, as the<br />
most important factor, their personal potential.<br />
Analysis of the situation conducted among Latvian youth has showed that young people<br />
are often not certain into which HEI should they enroll, do not finish their studies or cannot find<br />
job appropriate to their specialization after graduation. A number of pupils were unclear of their<br />
future professional life and were completely disorientated in the variety of higher education<br />
institutions, study programs and enrolment requirements. All those factors led to complications in<br />
