Generell informasjon
The Bible has played a pivotal role in Western culture. The present course aims to give a very brief introduction to this role, providing
the student with a framework for understanding the significance of biblical studies in a Western context.
The course literature is divided into two categories: (a) intensive course literature, and (b) cursory course literature. During the final
examination, primary focus will be only on the first category of course literature.

Studiekrav
The student is to
- be present in the tutoring offered in this course (75 percent presence required),
- give an evaluation of the course and the teaching if the course is up for evaluation the semester in question.
Vurdering
To gain credits for the course the student has to pass all the course works/¬assignments, and then sit for a written examination (2
hours). The written examination is to be assessed with a grade (A-F).
Mål og innhold
The students are expected to:
- be familiar with an outline of the history of the study and use of the Bible in Western culture
- be familiar with an outline of contemporary interpretations of the Bible
- be familiar with examples of interpretation of Biblical material in Western art and culture
