Novos Olhares

This church dates from 1843. It is a simple and
humble chapel, painted blue and white and made
of wood like the haylofts, fishermen’s houses and
storage place for fishing gear. Its interior is sober and
tranquil, inviting to peace and recollection. Today
it has beside it the monument to the Fishermen
of Mira, evoking the fishing vocation of this land
once called Palheiros de Mira. Today it constitutes
a rare legacy of the type of construction that
predominated in this region and evokes the Viking
ancestors who settled here centuries ago.
