Novos Olhares

More than present in the name of the municipality,
the Foz that makes up Figueira, is also the place where
the Mondego flows, one of the most important rivers
in Portugal. Born high up in the Serra da Estrela, it
is unique in Portugal to be born in a fountain on the
roadside and along its course it crosses three districts,
passing through important towns and cities such as
Penacova and Coimbra. Before it flows into the river,
near Figueira da Foz, the Mondego is home to various
species of more or less rare birds: flamingos, egrets,
little egrets and starlings are just a few that live or pass
through here.
