Mira has a strong maritime vocation and one of the most traditional arts takes place on the beach and is a picture postcard for visitors: the Xávega art. The boats, called “half-moons”, shallow to slip on the sand, cast their seine nets and at the ends have ropes with buoys. One of the ropes stays on land. The net is stretched out in the open sea, in the centre is a net bag and the boat brings the other end. The ropes are pulled by tractors and until a few years ago by ox-joints.
