Classificado como imóvel de interesse público, o Convento de Santo António segue as premissas que habitualmente caracterizam as casas religiosas franciscanas, pautando-se todo o conjunto por uma grande austeridade arquitectónica e decorativa. 280 Hidden by green trees, the Convent of Santo António de Penela, founded in 1578 by the Province of Santo António dos Frades Capuchos, is one of the examples of religious heritage that is present in the municipality, thus aligning the importance of religious architecture in the region of Coimbra. Classified as property of public interest, the Convent of Santo António follows the premises that usually characterise Franciscan religious houses, the whole being marked by great architectural and decorative austerity.
