A historical village, Piódão has become known
essentially for its scenic position perched on
the Açor mountain range, plenty of reasons to
make it worth a visit. The mark of this mountain
village of narrow, winding streets is the schist, an
abundant material in the region, which is used in
the construction of the houses and on the floor
of the streets, forming a patch of uniform colour
interrupted by the strong blue of the windows
and doors of some of the houses, reminiscent
of a nativity scene due to the harmonious way its
houses are arranged in an amphitheatre and which,
at night, when the lights come on, form one of its
best images.
