Gudrun "Lise" Esrum (nee Rasmussen), 86, of Wheaton, Ill., passed away peacefully on Dec. 23.
She is survived by her husband, Ove Esrum; two daughters, Eva Esrum of Fountain Inn, S.C., and Lise
Leonard (husband Chuck) and grandson Erik of Naperville, Ill.; her youngest sister, Nini Møller of
Ringkøbing, Denmark; and many nieces and nephews.
Born in Isafjordur, Iceland, of Danish parents on Sept. 14, 1919, the family moved back to Denmark a year
later. Lise was the eighth of ten children. She obtained bachelor's degrees in piano, organ and nursing. She
eventually worked in all three capacities, piano teacher, church organist and nurse, both in Denmark and the
United States.
In the early 1950s, future husband, Ove Esrum, decided to move his engineering career to the U.S. Lise
followed in 1954 to marry and join Ove on an "American Journey" together. Both obtained U.S. citizenship
and always exercised their power to vote. Over 52 years of marriage the Esrums lived in New York, New
Jersey, Maryland, Ohio, South Carolina and Illinois. Lise always made sure church and music were an integral
part of family life. From 1979 through 1999, Lise was active in the choir at First Presbyterian Church in
Greenville.
Internment will be at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton, Ill. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to the
