2842_LVIA 135 September 2011 GALLOPER WIND FARM SUBSTATION 13.0 Mitigation 13.1. Mitigation for Onshore Cable Connection 13.1.1. Careful consideration has been given to the route of the cable connection corridor to ensure that there is only a minimal lasting visible effect upon the landscape resource, its character and constituent features. The close alignment of the proposed cable connection to the route of the connection to GGOWF substation will minimise the additional spread of construction activity and extent of landscape disturbance beyond that already affected in the landscape of the study area. 13.1.2. The cable connection will be installed by underground directional drilling ensuring that there is no disturbance to the sand dunes to the west of Sizewell Beach, and to two roads and hedgerows lining the roads. It is not anticipated that any trees, shrubs or hedgerows will be removed. 13.2. Mitigation for Substation During Construction 13.2.1. During construction effects will be minimised by retaining and protecting as much existing vegetation as possible (and particularly Sizewell Wents wood, trees, hedgerows and acid grassland in Broom Covert). Trees will be protected in accordance with recommendations by an arboriculturalist. Soils will be handled and stored to minimise damage to soil structure. Working areas will be kept to a minimum. During operation 13.2.2. A landscape mitigation strategy for the substation design, addressing effects during operation, has been prepared and this is presented in Appendix 4. The strategy has been prepared with reference to existing documented information describing and assessing the landscape

This information and our own assessment of the site and its context have provided a framework for the design and mitigation strategy.
