2842_LVIA 45 September 2011 GALLOPER WIND FARM SUBSTATION Visitors and the Tourism/Amenity Resource 5.3.5. This visual receptor category embraces a wide variety of individual visual receptor groups, whose principal preoccupation is with the enjoyment of the outdoor environment, the open countryside and the tourism/amenity resource. These receptor groups include visitors to the beach at Sizewell, holiday makers staying at the caravan campsites to the west and south of Sizewell beach and walkers and horse riders using the local public right of way (PROW) network. 5.3.6. There are a number of footpaths and bridleways within the study area. Those closest to the site are shown on Figure 05. The closest PROW (a bridleway) extends in a north-west to south-east direction along Sandy Lane, passing the edge of Broom Covert and in close proximity to the northern and eastern edges of the substation site. This bridleway is well used by local dog walkers and also appears to be locally valued, as evidenced by a wooden bench located near the style at the entrance to Broom Covert. 5.3.7. In the wider landscape to the south of the substation site, there is a dense footpath network extending south of Sizewell Gap road, some of which forms part of the Aldringham Walks conservation area managed by the RSPB. Another notable footpath to the south of the site is the Sandlings Walk (A 60 mile long distance route between the eastern fringes of Ipswich and Southwold) which extends northwards from the southern portion of the study area, passing at an approximate minimum distance of 0.2km to the southeast of the cable sealing compounds and gantries at the eastern edge of the substation site (viewpoint 4 lies on this part of the route) before extending eastwards to follow the coastline northwards. The Suffolk Coastal Path (A 50 mile long distance route from Felixstowe to Lowestoft) also follows the coastline in the eastern extents of the study area, passing at a minimum distance of approximately 0.5km east of the proposed cable sealing compounds and gantries at the eastern edge of the substation site. Potential visual effects on visitors and the tourism/amenity resource are represented by viewpoint numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6. 5.4. Representative Viewpoint Appraisal 5.4.1. The representative viewpoints were agreed in consultation with Suffolk Coastal District Council, Suffolk County Council and Natural England. The assessment does not include offshore viewpoints as the majority of visual receptors are land-based. The locations of the eight representative viewpoints are shown on Figure 04. The existing views can be seen on Figures 2890/WF_DE/01 RevA to 2890/WF-DE/08 RevA. The existing views and sensitivities of the visual receptors are described below and summarised in Table 3. The magnitude and significance of effect from each representative viewpoint are established and anticipated effects summarised in sections 9.3, 10.3 and 11.3 of this report.
