2842_LVIA 63 September 2011 GALLOPER WIND FARM SUBSTATION 8.2. Lighting GWF compound (the westerly compound) 8.2.1. A detailed permanent lighting plan for the GWF compound element of the substation will be produced during the design phase in line with the following principles unless otherwise agreed with the local planning authority: � lighting will not be turned on unless personnel are present on site; � the substation is unmanned therefore the default lighting option will be no lighting; � lighting may be required during planned and emergency maintenance operations; � where feasible, planned maintenance operations will be carried out between the hours of 8am and 6pm; � lighting will generally be downward pointing to minimise sky glow; � automatic low level lighting will be incorporated at the access gate and control building; and � no lighting will be installed on the access route except at the access gate. 8.2.2. There will, therefore, be no lights on for most of the time during operation. When people are present during the hours of darkness lighting will be on for operational purposes and will be designed to minimise light pollution. Effects of lighting from the GWF compound during operation will, therefore, be minimal and is not referred to in the LVIA.
2842_LVIA 64 September 2011 GALLOPER WIND FARM SUBSTATION Transmission compound 8.2.3. This assessment is based on there being no lighting as the transmission compound is unmanned. Lighting will be installed for use during planned/emergency maintenance. Automatic security lighting will be installed at the gate area and control building. Other lights will be manually operated. 8.2.4. <strong>National</strong> Grid will agree a detailed design which will include a plan of lighting arrangements with the Local <strong>Planning</strong> Authority Sealing end compounds 8.2.5. This assessment is based on there being no lighting as the sealing end compounds are unmanned. Lighting will be installed for use during planned/emergency maintenance. 8.2.6. No lighting such as aircraft warning lights will be installed on the gantries. Construction 8.2.7. Lighting will be required during the construction period. In general work will be restricted to take place from 7am - 8pm and temporary lighting may be required for any activity during this time. Specific activities may require lighting outside this time period if they are occurring during winter or into the evening and it's a requirement to continue the activity, e.g. continuous concrete pours, cable landfall, horizontal directional drilling or commissioning of electrical equipment. 8.3. Programme 8.3.1. Onshore, the construction programme will be up to five years but this will not be five years of intensive construction activities.
