GALLOPER WIND FARM SUBSTATION
8.2. Lighting
GWF compound (the westerly compound)
8.2.1. A detailed permanent lighting plan for the GWF compound element
of the substation will be produced during the design phase in line
with the following principles unless otherwise agreed with the local
planning authority:
� lighting will not be turned on unless personnel are present on
site;
� the substation is unmanned therefore the default lighting option
will be no lighting;
� lighting may be required during planned and emergency
maintenance operations;
� where feasible, planned maintenance operations will be carried
out between the hours of 8am and 6pm;
� lighting will generally be downward pointing to minimise sky
glow;
� automatic low level lighting will be incorporated at the access
gate and control building; and
� no lighting will be installed on the access route except at the
access gate.
8.2.2. There will, therefore, be no lights on for most of the time during
operation. When people are present during the hours of darkness
lighting will be on for operational purposes and will be designed to
minimise light pollution. Effects of lighting from the GWF
compound during operation will, therefore, be minimal and is not
referred to in the LVIA.
