The air gap flux density <strong>of</strong> the experimental machine was measured with search coils<br />

when both <strong>of</strong> the <strong>stator</strong> <strong>winding</strong>s are excited with the same voltages <strong>an</strong>d frequencies used<br />

in the computer simulations <strong>of</strong> Figure 3.10. Three search coils were inserted in the <strong>stator</strong><br />

slots: one has a full coil pitch for the two-pole <strong>stator</strong> <strong>winding</strong> set, the second also has a<br />

full-pitch sp<strong>an</strong> for the six-pole <strong>winding</strong> set while the third is placed to measure flux<br />

density in the <strong>stator</strong> yoke. In Figure 3.34, the flux densities are shown when the machine<br />

operates in the linear magnetic region or no load. When the machine is loaded to the rated<br />

torque, the air gap flux density pr<strong>of</strong>ile ch<strong>an</strong>ges to Figure 3.35.<br />
