(6) Pass frayed wire rope, according to size <strong>of</strong><br />

pipe, through pipe.<br />

(7) Wash with stream <strong>of</strong> fresh, cold water at<br />

high pressure.<br />

(8) Dry thoroughly J being careful not to leave<br />

threads <strong>of</strong> rags, towelling or waste in the<br />

pipe. Seal both ends until ready to install.<br />

(b) Steel pipe. -<br />

(1) Treat machined faces or threads <strong>of</strong> end fittings<br />

with hot paraffin waK.<br />

(2) .Dip and remove immediately in acid bath solution,<br />

1 par-tsu.Lphur Lc acid, 15 parts water.<br />

(3) . Wash in fresh eo.Ld water.<br />

(4) Immerse for one 'minute in a neutralizing<br />

. bath <strong>of</strong> 1-1/2 pounds <strong>of</strong> Magnus #2-1/2 per<br />

gallon <strong>of</strong> freshwater.<br />

(5) Soak in boiling water for 10 minutes.<br />

(6) Pass frayed wire rope, according to size <strong>of</strong><br />

pipe, ~hrough pipe.<br />

(7) Wash with stream <strong>of</strong> fresh, cold water at<br />

high pressure.<br />

(8) Dry thoroughly, being careful not to leave<br />

threads <strong>of</strong> rags, towelling or waste in the<br />

pipe. Seal both ends until ready to install.<br />

(9) Oil to prevent rusting.<br />

Cleaning as above is particularly applicable whenever lead or<br />

other material has been used in bending pipes.<br />

6. When making up connections, tubing should not ordinarily<br />

be welded, brazed or silver soldered, as proper cleaning<br />

is impossible in such cases. (There are exceptLons to<br />

this rule, necessitated by design.)<br />

If the joint is gasketed, the inner diameter <strong>of</strong> the gasket<br />

must be cut back slightly to prevent gasket material fraying<br />

into the system.<br />

Threaded joints which require cement must be partially seated<br />

(at least three turns) before applying cement, sparingly.
