29. Tube pawl control mechanism. - Tube pawls have<br />
splined mounting on horizontal shafts which have bearings in<br />
the respective housings. Each pawl shaft is fitted with a<br />
crank which is connected to a system <strong>of</strong> control rods. The latter<br />
extends to the piston <strong>of</strong> a tube pawl operating cylinder IIJII<br />
(see par. 31). This cylinder is loca ted on the tube immediately<br />
adjacent to the upper pawl.<br />
30. Rack pawl tripping cam mechanism. - When the rack<br />
is at the bottom <strong>of</strong> its stroke the three upper rack pawls are<br />
aligned with tripping cams (attached to the rack casing). These<br />
are arranged to be simultaneously actuated by a system <strong>of</strong> rods<br />
that extends to the piston <strong>of</strong> a rack pawl operating cylinder ItH"<br />
(see par. 31). This cylinder is located adjacent to the tube<br />
pawl operating cylinder. The tripping cam action is such that<br />
it will retain the pawls in retracted position until each pawl<br />
on the upward moving rack is past the base <strong>of</strong> a projectile on<br />
the stage above. (See fig. 47.)<br />
