Φερειπείν
Χιέλεις το τούτον οξά τόυτον;
Do you want this or this?
Πάεις ειστό κρεοπωλείον οξά είστον ψουμάν;
Are you going to the butcher’s or to the bakery?
Ζ’είς ειστήν Σκάλαν οξά ειστήν Χώραν;
Do you live in Larnaca or Nicosia?
37.8 Είτε...είτε/γιά...γιά/ή...ή = Either...or
The conjuctional phrases ‘γιά...γιά / ή...ή’ means ‘either…or’.
Φερειπείν
Χιέλω ή τούτον ή τζ’είνον.
I want either this or that.
Πάει γιά ειστό σκολείον γιά ειστό νοσοκομείον.
He is either going to school or to the hospital.
Πάει είτε σκολείον είτε γυμνάσιον.
He/she/it is either going to elementary school or highschool.
37.9 Ουδεκανού/Ειδεμή/Ειδαλγιώς = Otherwise
The conjuctions ‘ειδεκανού/ειδεμή/ειδαλγιώς all mean ‘otherwise’.
Φερειπείν
Πρέπει να πάω εις την αστυνομίαν ουδεκανού/ειδεμή/ειδαλγιώς εννά μεν πκιαστεί ο κλεύτης.
I must go to the police otherwise the thief will not be caught.
Το φαΐν να το κάμει η μάνα μου ουδεκανού/ειδεμή/ειδαλγιώς έθενναν καλόν.
The food should be prepared by my mother otherwise it will not taste well.
Το χτήριον αναγκαστικά εννά κατεδαφιστεί ουδεκανού/ειδεμή/ειδαλγιώς εννά πέσει μανιχόν ντου.
The building must be demolished otherwise it will collapse by itself.
37.10 Άντα τζ’αι/Τώμου = (if) As soon as
This pronoun is also used mainly at the start of the sentence but can also be used as a conjuction.
Άντα τζ’αι/τώμου επήα εσ’άσ’άρεν να τα χώσει.
As soon as I went he/she rushed to hide them.
Άρκοψες άντα τζ’αι/τ’ωπου πάμεν τζ’αι έν ναιν σαζμένος εννα θυμηθώ.
Tomorrow at night if as soon as we go he is not ready I will be angry.
Ασκόπηεν ντο να το έβρει άντα τζ’αι/τώπου είπουν ντου πως εχάθην.
He looked for it in order to find it as soon as I told him that it went missing.
37.11 Όνταν/άμμαν = When
While όνταν/άμμαν mean ‘when’ these are used with the Present and Future Tenses and the Subjunctive Tenses but not with the Past
tenses!
Όνταν/άμμαν με κουρέψει ο παρπέρης πκιωρώννω τον 5 Ευρά.
When the barber cuts my hair I pay him 5 Euros.
Όνταν/άμμαν πάεις σκολείον εννά μάθεις γράμματα.
If you go to school you will be educated.
Δώς του τα ριάλγια όνταν/άμμαν σου τα ζητήσει.
Give him the money when he asks for it.
37.12A Τότες = When/at that time
While τότες means ‘when’ contrary to the conjuctions above this one is only used with Past Tenses and never with Present or Future
Tenses.
Τότες που εδούλευκα εις την τράπεζαν επερνούσα καλά.
When I used to work in the bank the time I spent there was fun/good.
