37.30 Πέρκιμου/Πέρκιμον = Hopefully<br />

An additional conjuction in this chapter which is very simple and it is used at the start of a sentence with the meaning of hopefully and<br />

within sentences meaning hopefully.<br />

Εννά πάει να το κουβενκιάσουσιν πέρκιμου του δώκουσιν άυξησην.<br />

He will meet him to discuss about it in hope that they will give him a pay rise.<br />

Πέρκιμον εν τον είεν.<br />

Hopefully he didn’t see him.<br />

37.31 Θέμας/Θέμι/Πουπάνω/Τζ’ολας = Added to this/Additionally/In addition<br />

The final set of conjuctions in this chaper is simple. They are either used at the start of the end of a sentence contraty to english!<br />

Επήεν τζ’αι εις τον ομπρόλαλον θέμας/θέμι/πουπάνω/τζ’όλας<br />

In addition she/he went to the lawyer.<br />

Ο Νίκκις συντηχάννει τζ’ινέζικα θέμας/θέμι/πουπάνω/τζ’όλας<br />

Added to this Nick also speaks Chinese!<br />

37.32 Τάχατες = With the excuse that/Supposedly<br />

The final conjuction is one which has many uses in Cypriot. It can mean ‘with the excuse that’ but also with the same meaning carrying an<br />

ironic and sarcastic tone.<br />

Δουλεύκει τζ’αμαί τάχατες του αρέσκει.<br />

He works there with the excuse that he likes it.<br />

Τάχατες εν μου εφώναξες.<br />

Supposedly you didn’t call for me.<br />

It it also used in questions with a sarcastic or an ironic tone.<br />

Τάχατες εν το έκαμες;<br />

Supposedly you didn’t do it?<br />

Am I supposed to believe that you didn’t do it?<br />

37.33 Ασκήεις – Exercises<br />

Translate the following sentences into Cypriot:<br />

He neither talks nor speaks.<br />

She sold him either this or that.<br />

Did you go or not?<br />

It looks like he is a lawyer.<br />

Perhaps he is a policeman.<br />
