The preposition ‘θκιά’ means ‘through’, ‘via’ or ‘along’ with a tendency of being used with abstract nouns. This preposition takes the<br />
Genitive – Γενική. Eventhough it can be considered archaic and situational; that is used in ancient Greek phrases, it has a wide use in<br />
formal situations. Sometimes when used with masculine nouns the genitive article can be omitted.<br />
Φερειπείν<br />
Θκιά βίου μάθηση.<br />
Life long learning.<br />
Θκιά της νομικής οδού<br />
Through legal means.<br />
Θκιά του πνεύματος.<br />
Through the spirit.<br />
Θκιά του σωστού δρόμου.<br />
Via the right road.<br />
20.10 Μέσων – Through, Via, Along<br />
The preposition ‘μέσων’ also means ‘through’, ‘via’ or ‘along’ and has the tendency of being used with actual nouns. This preposition like<br />
the one above takes the Genitive – Γενική. This preposition is seen to be more modern and but slightly less formal than ‘θκιά’. On the<br />
contraty genitive articles are always used with this preposition.<br />
Φερειπείν<br />
Μέσων Άμστερνταμ.<br />
Via Amsterdam.<br />
Μέσων ντων σωστών κινήσεων.<br />
Through the right moves.<br />
Πιτζ’οινωνία μέσων του θκιαδικτύου.<br />
Communication via the internet.<br />
20.11 Μες - In<br />
The preposition ‘μες’ means ‘in’ and takes the Accusative – Αιτιατική.<br />
Φερειπείν<br />
Το γάλαν έν μέστο ψυγείον<br />
The milk is in the refridgerator.<br />
Η πένα έν μέστο συρτάριν<br />
The pen is in the drawer.<br />
Ο Αντρικκίς έν μέστην κάμαρην ντου.<br />
Andrew is in his room.<br />
Contraction<br />
The preposition ‘μες’ can be contracted with articles to form one word.<br />
Μες + τον -> μέστον<br />
Μες + την -> μέστην<br />
Μες + το -> μέστο<br />
Μες + τους -> μέστους<br />
Μες + τες -> μέστες (due to homophony it is not preferred)<br />
Μες + τα -> μέστα<br />
20.12 Έκ/Έξ – Out of/From/By<br />
The preposition ‘έκ/έξ’ means ‘out of’. This preposition takes the Genitive – Γενική. If the word used with this preposition starts with a<br />
consonant then ‘έκ’ is used and if it starts with a vowel ‘έξ’ is used instead.<br />
Φερειπείν<br />
Οδηγίες εκ της Βουλής.<br />
Guidelines from/by the Parliament.<br />
Νέοι κανονισμοί εξ Αρχής Λιμένων<br />
New regulations by the Port Authority.<br />
Εκ των δέκα αδρώπων ο ένας επήεν φυλακήν.<br />
