CYPRIOT GRAMMAR

The preposition ‘κατα’ means ‘from’ and thus implies origin. This preposition takes the Accusative – Αιτιατική.
Φερειπείν
Τζ’είνη ένει που την Σκάλαν.
That (fm) is from Larnaca.
Ήρτασιν που την Αγγλίαν.
They came from England.
Πίανει τα αφκά που την κούππαν.
He/she/it takes the eggas from the bowl.

I brought it for her.
Το δώρον έν για τον Γιώρκον
The gift is for George.
Ήρταν γράμματα στο ταχυδρομείον για την Μαρίαν.
Letters for Mary came via mail.
20.6 Αντίς/Αντί – Instead of
The preposition ‘αντίς’ means ‘instead of’. This preposition does not have a specific case. The case it takes depends on the case of the verb
with which it is used.
Φερειπείν
Διά του το τζ’είνου αντίς της κοπελλούας
He/she/it gives it to him instead of the girl.
Προτιμάς το τούτον αντις τζ’είνον;
Do you prefer this instead of that?
Πάεις ειστό σκολείον αντίς ειστό γυμναστήριον;
Are you going to school instead of the gym?
20.7 Με – With/By
The preposition ‘με’ means ‘with’ or ‘by’. This preposition takes the Genitive – Γενική. This preposition is mainly used with NOUNS.
Φερειπείν
Πάω με το μπισικλίν ειστο σκολείον
I go to school by bicycle.
Ο Γιώρκος πάει με το κάρρον ντου ειστην δουλγάν.
George goes to work with his car.
Μαειρεύκω πατάτες με κρίας
I am cooking potatoes with meat.
20.8 Μιτά - With
The preposition ‘αντίς’ means ‘instead of’. This preposition takes the Genitive – Γενική. This preposition is mainly used with PERSONS.

Ο Γιώρκος τζ’αι ο Μιχάλης επήαν μιτά του Δημήτρη ειστήν Αγγλίαν
George and Michael went with Jimmy to England.
Τούτοι εφάσιν μιτά τους εψές
They ate with them yesterday night.
Πάω μιτά της Ελένης στον ψουμάν
I am going with Helen to the bakery.
