had been in the lead in pushing for rescue
training and preparations. Dr Noel Sloan, Frank
Reid, Frank Lamm, Jim Johnson, Randy Bugh,
Amanda Clark (now Mortimer), David Short,
David Randall, and I all went through NCRC
trainings to become instructors. Don Paquette
was both the Regional Coordinator and the
National Coordinator
during some of this
time. Dr Sloan did a
stint as the Regional
Coordinator, as
did Amanda. I have
been the Regional
Coordinator since
2001. Along with the
one of the highest
number of NCRC
instructors on a per
state basis, quite a
few Indiana residents
went through NCRC
training and helped
out on numerous cave
rescues, including

(now Baker, now also
an NCRC instructor),
and Allen Hutchison.
Others had significant
involvement in cave
rescue training and
planning including
Dean Myer, Dwight
Hazen, and Rick
Nicholson. These
people took lead
roles in pushing other
people to obtain
training and spent
considerable time and
resources to make it
happen.

Region since the late
1980s has conducted
four or five Orientations to Cave Rescue
(OCR) per year. Usually at least one of those
has been in Indiana. Every decade from 1980
to present has seen the National Weeklong
NCRC here in Indiana, once in Bloomington,
once in Marengo, and once in Corydon.
On top of that, both the level 1 and level 2
NCRC Weeklong 2004, Langdons Cave.
