Lost River - Karst Information Portal

This cave is located along the base of the
ridge below Wyandotte Cave within the
Harrison Crawford State Forest. To reach the
cave it is a 1,250-foot walk along an old logging
road. The entrance is situated only a few feet
east (uphill) from this logging road and can
easily be seen from the logging road.

The entrance to this cave is a 3-footdiameter,
6-foot-deep, hand dug well with
hand placed limestone slabs for walls. The
well intersects the west side of a stream
passage. At the turn of the century, the
water from the cave was used by the Sibert
family. Blind fish were reported in this cave
by Blatchley in 1897,
but none have been
reported in the cave
during this century.
The upstream
passage is walking
size for 100 feet.
At this point the
stream emerges from
under the right wall.
Downstream, one
can avoid getting wet
by taking crawlways
above the stream
for nearly 200 feet.
The stream then
disappears through
a narrow crack. The
passage continues
off the map by way
of a crawlway on
the right. In a short
distance the stream
is again encountered,
here the passage is
8 feet wide with a
bedrock floor, but is
too low to continue.
A rock hammer
would be helpful for
further exploration.
The stream should
emerge a thousand
feet away as a spring
along the Blue
River.
