powers <strong>of</strong> the Subcommittee to a smaller number <strong>of</strong> that Committee who should<br />

have the same powers.<br />

The Grand Lodge having considered this matter are <strong>of</strong> opinion that it will<br />

be for the advantage <strong>of</strong> the Grand Lodge that a reconciliation be brought about<br />

between her and the Kilwinning Lodge, and therefore Grant full power and<br />

authority to the Committee formerly named to meet with a Committee from the<br />

Kilwinning Lodge in Edinburgh or any other place to be mutually agreed upon<br />

and finally to arrange and Settle all disputes presently subsisting between the<br />

Grand Lodge and the Kilwinning Lodge in the way and manner said Committee<br />

may judge most for the Honor, Interest and advantage <strong>of</strong> the Grand Lodge, with<br />

power to said Committee if they deem it necessary to name a Subcommittee <strong>of</strong><br />

their own number and to invest said Subcommittee with all the powers hereby<br />

granted to the Select Committee.<br />

14 February 1807<br />

The Committee having taken into their particular consideration the powers<br />

originally vested in them by the Grand Lodge with the additional powers<br />

committed to them at last Quarterly Communication and being convinced <strong>of</strong> the<br />

necessity <strong>of</strong> appointing a small Sub Committee agreeable to these powers for the<br />

final settlement <strong>of</strong> the Existing differences between the Grand Lodge and the<br />

Lodge <strong>of</strong> Kilwinning if such shall be found practicable…The Select Committee<br />

authorised the Grand Secretary and Grand Clerk to take such steps as they may<br />

think proper for communicating to the Presiding <strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>of</strong> the Kilwinning<br />

Lodge their present proceedings for affording them an opportunity <strong>of</strong> appointing<br />

a small committee for meeting with this Subcommittee and the view <strong>of</strong> the final<br />

arrangement proposed and the Subcommittee is directed to meet from time to<br />

time as they may think necessary and to Report their proceedings to this<br />

Committee.<br />

4 May 1807<br />

Br. David Wilkies motion regarding Grand Lodge Certificates was taken up and<br />

discussed at some length when a motion was made and agreed to that the same<br />

be referred to the <strong>St</strong>anding Committee to investigate the matter and likewise<br />

with power to suggest the most proper method to be adopted for compelling the<br />

Lodges in arrear to Settle these arrears and to Report against next Quarterly<br />

Communication.<br />

Right Worshipful Brown Master <strong>of</strong> Marys Chapel moved and it was<br />

seconded by B. Cunningham one <strong>of</strong> his Wardens that the powers formerly<br />

granted to the committee on the business <strong>of</strong> Kilwinning were too Exclusive that<br />

instead <strong>of</strong> granting to the committee full powers to arrange and finally settle all<br />

differences subsisting between the Grand Lodge and the Kilwinning Lodge, the<br />

Committee should only be directed to ascertain the claims <strong>of</strong> the Kilwinning<br />

Lodge and to Report leaving it to the Grand Lodge how far these demands were<br />

reasonable.<br />

On the other hand it was contended that the Committee formerly named<br />

had acted upon the powers granted them, by opening a correspondence with the
