We have likewise mixed up our degrees into
thirty-three, some part of the first original seven
are now intermixed with so-called Higher Degrees.
The original Degrees were seven Lesser and ten
Greater. The seven Lesser belonged to and originated
with the Old Stellar Cult. The ten Greater
belonged to and took their origin in the Solar Cult.
Some of our Signs and Symbols date back to
Primary Man, and in tracing his evolution we
find how these have originated and one added to
others, and how some of these have been changed
with the different Cults.
If we merely consider the tokens of recognition,
the passwords, secret words, and the decorations
of the Lodges, according to the degrees into which
modern Masonry is divided, we find that many
of them are taken from the V.S.L., and are symbolical
of events, real or imaginary, some of which
are said to have taken place in those comparatively
