ORIGINS OF FREEMASONRY<br />

A Lecture delivered before the Dorset Masters Lodge No. 3366, at<br />

the <strong>Masonic</strong> Hall, Dorchester, on the 12th June, 1912.<br />

As a <strong>Masonic</strong> student who has studied the history<br />

<strong>of</strong> the past ages more than, I believe, any other<br />

Mason living, I felt it would not only be a pleasure<br />

but a duty to try and assist in that great work for<br />

which this Lodge was founded. <strong>The</strong> difficulty on<br />

such an occasion as this is in selecting that subject,<br />

or subjects, which would be the most interesting<br />

and instructive, and as there are so many<br />

Brothers who write and lecture on the modern<br />

aspect <strong>of</strong> <strong>Freemasonry</strong>, I have thought<br />

it wiser<br />

to try and give a little more light upon the history<br />

<strong>of</strong> the past, so that you may be able to penetrate<br />

through that gloom <strong>of</strong> the darker ages, and be<br />

better enabled to appreciate what <strong>Freemasonry</strong><br />

really is, in all its symbolisms, and to understand<br />

some <strong>of</strong> the workings <strong>of</strong> the Divine Creator's laws<br />

<strong>of</strong> evolution, and how we Freemasons are the<br />
