One <strong>of</strong> the earliest Ideographs for Set, El<br />

Shaddai, and Horus were the two Eyes (see<br />

Fig. 13), symbols <strong>of</strong> the two Pole Stars, North<br />

and South, originating at Apta, or at<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Equinox<br />

the Mount<br />

— Equatorial Africa. Another<br />

Ideograph was the two Poles— the Pole or Pillar<br />

<strong>of</strong> the South, assigned to Set, and the Pillar or<br />

Pole <strong>of</strong> the North, assigned to Horus (Fig. 15),<br />

the two Tatt Pillars. <strong>The</strong> Ideograph for the<br />

name <strong>of</strong> Set, as El Shaddai, was as No. 1, Fig. 6,<br />

and that for the name <strong>of</strong> Horus was as No. 2,<br />

Fig. 6. Fig. 10 was also an Ideographic Symbol<br />

for Horus, as Amsu, but was never attached to, or<br />

associated with, the God Set or El Shaddai.<br />

<strong>The</strong> reason why the Operative Masons have gone<br />

wrong in this part <strong>of</strong> their ritual is that they have<br />

mixed up the Gods <strong>of</strong> the four quarters with the<br />

One Great God. <strong>The</strong>se only represented attributes ;<br />

and they have also mixed up the God <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Pole Star South, El Shaddai, with the God <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Pole Star North, which was Horus, or Ihuh, <strong>of</strong><br />

Israel, or Iu, Ea, <strong>of</strong> the Chaldeans, Assyrians,<br />

and Babylonians, which is later than the Sumarian
