Darkness, also the two Seasons <strong>of</strong> the Old<br />

Egyptian Year. <strong>The</strong> old Egyptians<br />

first divided<br />

their year into (i) the Season <strong>of</strong> Summer Water,<br />

(2) the Season <strong>of</strong> Winter Drought. Also these<br />

were called the two original " Ancient Ones." It<br />

was at this time the two Cardinal Points— North<br />

and South=Set and Horus— " first came into<br />

being." <strong>The</strong> next phase was Heaven being divided<br />

into three divisions, or " triangular form," with<br />

the God Shu added to the two above, placed at<br />

the Equinox, forming the Primary Trinity.<br />

<strong>The</strong>se three represented the first three Sons, or<br />

Elementary Powers, born <strong>of</strong> the Great Mother,<br />

and symbolized in Egypt in one form by<br />

<strong>The</strong><br />

Water Cow," the Crocodile, and the Lion :<br />

repre-<br />

senting (1) Light, (2) Darkness, (3) the breathing<br />

power, or Winds. Also they represented the three<br />

Seasons, into which the Egyptians had then divided<br />

their 1 . year— <strong>The</strong> water season, represented sym-<br />

bolically by Horus ; 2, the season <strong>of</strong> wind, or<br />

breath <strong>of</strong> life, and <strong>of</strong> the Equinoctial gales, by<br />

Shu ; 3, the season <strong>of</strong> Dryness and Drought, by<br />

Set ; called (1) the Water Season, (2)<br />

the Green<br />

Season, and (3) the Dry Season. <strong>The</strong> Signs and<br />

Symbols for which were (1) Water, (2) Grow-<br />

ing Plants, (3) a Barn or Storehouse indicating<br />

that the harvest was gathered. <strong>The</strong> names in<br />

Egyptian for these Seasons are Se, Pir, Semon.<br />

<strong>The</strong> three Seasons <strong>of</strong> four months led to the
