Man "). <strong>The</strong> one and the four. <strong>The</strong> one was<br />

Horus— the four were the four brothers <strong>of</strong> Horus,<br />

afterwards called the children <strong>of</strong> Horus, who were<br />

the four supports <strong>of</strong> Heaven when this was repre-<br />

sented by the Square —and here in the Pyramid<br />

symbolized by the four stones, which form a<br />

square over the entrance. <strong>The</strong> " flame born <strong>of</strong> a<br />

flame " was Horus, the child <strong>of</strong> Hathor, who came<br />

forth at dawn as the Young Sun God. Hathor,<br />

the Moon Goddess, descends into the underworld,<br />

and there meets the Sun, and obtains regeneration<br />

<strong>of</strong> Light from the Sun (Lunar mythology). In<br />

Ritual, ch. xvi., it is stated :<br />

Thou art Horus,<br />

the Son <strong>of</strong> Hathor, the flame born <strong>of</strong> a flame."<br />

Here Horus is born and is represented as the<br />

Child <strong>of</strong> Light, who became in the Eschatology<br />

the Divine Man.<br />

How would<br />

Madame Blavatsky have rendered the meaning <strong>of</strong><br />

this mystery? Yet in the Ritual it is plain. <strong>The</strong><br />

God <strong>of</strong> the Earth was Seb, whose Zootype in the<br />

mythology was a Goose that laid the Egg. Now<br />

the Egg that was laid was the Sun setting in the<br />

West, which was " hatched out " in the underworld<br />

and came forth in the East as the Young<br />

Sun— " Giver <strong>of</strong> Light," etc.—and was typical <strong>of</strong>
