Lodge, when he gave the message <strong>of</strong> peace and<br />

brotherhood : <strong>The</strong>re shall be no war between<br />

the United States <strong>of</strong> America and England ;<br />

we<br />

are <strong>of</strong> one Brotherhood, and the Freemasons <strong>of</strong><br />

U.S.A. have decided that there shall be no war,<br />

now or ever, between the two countries, and I am<br />

delegated to come here and tell you this, repre-<br />

senting over a million <strong>of</strong> Brothers, and ask you<br />

in return to say there shall be no war." What<br />

a glorious triumph for the Brotherhood !<br />

Did the authorities who at present govern us<br />

try and bring about the same result with the<br />

recent friendly deputation <strong>of</strong> the Brotherhood<br />

from Germany, or only talk platitudes — or were<br />

unsuccessful in their endeavours? '<br />

We boast <strong>of</strong> a grand and perfect organization <strong>of</strong><br />

our great Brotherhood. Have we any organization<br />

that we can rely upon? Have we any leaders<br />

<strong>of</strong> men? How many in those who govern the<br />

Craft? How many Brothers have we who work,<br />

and wish, and act for the one universal Brother-<br />

hood?<br />

If our great Brotherhood were the perfect<br />

organization that many suppose, with a government<br />

<strong>of</strong> " leaders <strong>of</strong> men " whose ambition was<br />

only for the good <strong>of</strong> the Craft, the peace <strong>of</strong> the<br />

world, with the universal fraternal relations which<br />
