LOCAL DESCRIPTION
Local Range: Beaches are mapped along the shoreline throughout Colonial National Historic
Park. Erosion control structures such as riprap, seawalls, and jetties are mapped as Other Urban
and Built-up Land.
Classification Comments: This map class includes accumulations of sand along shorelines.
Beaches may have small areas of shrubby vegetation, but is considered a non-vegetated map
class. It is equal to the Anderson (1976) Level II unit 72 - Beaches.
