In this <strong>study</strong> unit we discuss <strong>the</strong> maintenance of a spouse after divorce. In<br />

<strong>the</strong> previous <strong>study</strong> unit, which dealt with redistribution of assets, it was<br />

explained that <strong>the</strong>re is an interrelationship between redistribution of assets<br />

and maintenance. It is <strong>the</strong>refore very important that you should know<br />

about and understand <strong>the</strong> redistribution of assets before proceeding <strong>to</strong><br />

<strong>study</strong> <strong>the</strong> present <strong>study</strong> unit. In this <strong>study</strong> unit we now look at<br />

maintenance orders in terms of section 7(2) of <strong>the</strong> Divorce Act 70 of 1979,<br />

and <strong>the</strong> rescission, suspension or variation and termination of maintenance<br />

orders.<br />
